Pikes Peak PF & Quail Forever Chapter 247

Habitat Program

Update January 3, 2012

2011 Spring Habitat Event

Thanks to members, guest, students, CDOW, and the Box T Cowboys, led by Jonathan Tullar, who worked the project at Chico Basin Ranch. The 3 acres of grass we planted will provide great cover and feed habitat for the Quail and Pheasant.  Pictures have been received from Grant Brigger and will post below over the next few days.  Follow-up projects at Chico Basin Ranch repositioned Russian Olive debris (pictured) for quail habitat (brush piles) and native scaled quail coveys were witnessed in them shortly afterward.  Additionally, the chapter attempted to plant 4 acres of habitat with seed, but the weather didn't cooperate and no rain hit the area for a couple months, and far too late for the growing season.
